April 2008
Welcome to Heworth Cricket Club

Dear Parent, Carers & Guardians
On behalf of Heworth Cricket Club I would like to welcome you and your child and provide you with some information about the cricket activities we offer. Heworth Cricket Club provides opportunities for young people to receive coaching, play in York & District competitions, make friends, keep fit and most importantly have fun! All coaching is by qualified coaches who are trained and have been screened for their suitability for working with young people and will make the sessions positive and enjoyable.
The club is presently working towards ECB Clubmark, which is awarded to cricket clubs by the England and Wales Cricket Board when the cricket club is able to demonstrate that it meets the ECB Clubmark criteria as across four areas: Duty of Care and Safeguarding Children; the Cricket Programme the club offers, Sports Equity and Ethics and Club Management. ECB Clubmark is an acknowledgement that we take these issues seriously and that we are striving to provide a high quality and welcoming environment for young participants in cricket.
We welcome parents, carers and guardians to all training sessions, matches and competitions and value your support.  We are keen to try and involve you in the club and would like to invite you to an open evening on 25th April where you can meet club members and officials and find out more about Heworth Cricket club. Below is some information about training times and dates, and details regarding travel arrangements, kit and membership.
Training sessions take place on various evenings starting from 18th April 2008 at Heworth Cricket Club, Elmpark Way, York - (please see the notice board for respective ages / days / times).
You should make arrangements for your child to travel to and from training sessions and matches. We would appreciate it if children can arrive promptly and are collected promptly at the end of the session. Your child will be asked to sign in and out of the training session.  If you are going to be late picking your child up, please contact your team manager and let them know.  (You will be given their telephone number at the welcome meeting).
We do have a supply of training kit which children can borrow, or you may wish to provide suitable training kit which should consist of:

  • Comfortable sports clothing (cricket whites for matches) – jeans are not appropriate
  • Comfortable training shoes (cricket boots are preferable and safer)
  • A helmet is essential and must be worn when batting
  • Batting pads, batting gloves and a protective box
  • Cricket bat
  • Jewellery should be removed for the safety of all players

Club shirts, track suit tops, caps, ties etc are available to purchase.  Please see our website for further information regarding cost – www.heworthcc.co.uk.  These will also be available to order on the 25th April.
There is no cost for training sessions or competition fees however the club has a junior annual membership fee of £20 and this should be paid by the end of May (cheques payable to Heworth Cricket Club).
We would be grateful if you could complete the attached club Membership Form. For the safety of your child it is important that the club is informed of any medical condition or allergies that may be relevant should your child fall ill or be involved in an accident at the club, and that this information is kept up to date at all times.
Heworth Cricket Club relies on the help and support of its members.  All parents, carers and guardians are encouraged to become social members at a cost of £10 per season.
